Finding More About Me - Group Meeting #1
In a group with 4 other classmates we started to discuss each other and our work. Where we're at, where we've come from, where we're heading.
In this group session, we covered my personal logo I developed a few years ago, talked about my strengths and weaknesses, and what I can do to start working on my advancing my personal brand.
Here are the results:
My old logo: everyone actually really liked it. It reads to them as "BK Design" however which isn't what I want exactly. The aesthetic is on point with who I am as a designer though. My domain is iamkarlee.com so we believe a K is the right letter to stick with.
Next we moved on to talking about strengths and weaknesses. Here is a list of what I received:
About Me and Strengths:
I have a global/ corporate Industrial - like a firm - feel to my vibe and work
Swiss style
Natural - I depict nature a lot
I use Natural texture
Common market - simplify so anyone can understand it - streamline it.
Light design
Monochromatic - one pop of color
A lot of blues - very corporate
Leadership, efficient, not bossy
Empowering
Enthusiasm but group setting
Logical
Detail oriented
Grammar peticular
Critical/constructive
Competitive
Good work ethic
Organizational
Flexible
Competitive
Flaws/weaknesses:
Scary/intimidating
Ramble when I talk, but it’s a good ramble?
If I’m nervous I show it. My voice gets higher and I talk faster, and I stop smiling if I’m nervous. I don't get nervous very often.
I’m competitive but they all think it’s a strength
Impatient
Don’t let go of things
Too Particular
Too into my ways
When taking a look at these lists, I appreciate the feedback I was given. I am glad they were honest with me that I am too set in my ways sometimes and impatient, as well as how they know when I"m nervous. I am also very impatient and I know I am. While all of these I am working on, I do appreciate the strengths they pointed out.
Which strengths and skills are going to be most helpful as I begin my career search?
I think my communication skills are excellent. I can write emails well and respond promptly to them. I also know to smile when you're on a phone interview because it makes you sound more friendly. I can story tell too, through writing and speaking. I think I can over tell a story sometimes though so I have to practice my stories before hand so I don't digress.
What skills are missing? What skills would I like to build but have not yet had the opportunity to practice?
I want to be more creative. I feel as though I'm in a box of creativity. In the corporate workplace the jobs are put this image in this template. I am very used to that. I have freedom to sometimes decide the image or how it's cropped or maybe where to put the text on top of the image, but I'm not creating anything from scratch. It doesn't seem like it anyways. I want to be more creative.
Next, Delevie came in to talk more about our mission statements. I am having trouble writing mine. This is what he said when giving examples:
"Through the utilization of design research and processes….."
you need to STATE SOMETHING
Through the utilization of design research and processes…..I want to solve problems people didn’t even knew they had through new technology.
Say it with authenticity and intent.
I'm still working on it... to be continued...
